SNL and New York City-based Stephen Yablon Architecture were commissioned to create a master plan for a property that was originally designed and inhabited by the Abstract Expressionist painter Elaine DeKooning and her friend, Lee Krasner, in the historic arts community of Springs, NY. Virtually unchanged since it was originally built, including DeKooning's original painting studio, the new owner wanted to update and expand the house and landscape the property while retaining the powerful sense of artistic passion and inspiration that still inhabit the place. The concept design for the landscape presents two alternatives for placement of a small plunge pool and wood patio adjacent to the studio space and massing of mixed evergreen trees and shrubs throughout the property to create visual interest and screen views of adjacent properties.
